EFDAA’s classes offered in 2024 are filled. No More Students can be added.
After December 15, 2024, the format of our 2025 courses will have minimal changes and will be posted on our website. Legislation recently passed this year have added new requirements for our courses. Please do not apply until the new changes have been adopted and posted on the web.

Licensed RDAEFs, RDAs, OAs

All dental assisting licensees, every two years, must complete the following continuing education units as part of their required 25 hours:  Currently the Dental Board requires as part of the 25 units, the licensee must complete:

  • Two (2) hour course in California Dental Practice Act.
  • Two (2) hour course in Infection Control
  • CPR Certification sponsored by American Heart Association or Red Cross.

Dental Practice Act (DPA) Homestudy Course

Our 2 Hour Dental Practice Act course is designed to meet the Dental Board’s regulation mandate for licensed dental assistants as part of licensure renewal.

It includes information from the California Code of Regulations 1600 and provides information on violation acts again the Dental Practice Act.  Emphasis shall be on the new statutory requirements affecting the dental assisting profession, as well as dental hygiene and dentistry.

Information will include:

  • Governing bodies for dentistry
  • Statute and regulations
  • Utilization and scope of practice for dental auxiliaries
  • Laws governing drug prescriptions
  • California cite and fine program
  • Requirements for revocation and suspensions
  • Protocol on licensure renewal
  • Mandatory reporting requirements

Important Information for licensed RDAEFs, RDAs or OA Permitted

In addition to meeting the renewal requirement, upon successful completion, you will receive 2 Category 1 continuing education units.

What are the Requirements for the Dental Practice Act Homestudy Course?

  • Once we receive your registration form and fee, we will e-mail you a comprehensive syllabus, written final examination and answer sheet.
  • You are to download and print the syllabus, examination and answer sheet.
  • This type of educational program allows you to review the material at your own pace.
  • Once you feel comfortable with the material, you complete the answer written examination on the answer sheet. You then fax in your answer sheet to 760-200-2850.
  • You have 7 days from the date of purchase to complete the course and examination.  After 7 days, if you have not completed the requirements, you will be required to retake the course at the tuition rate.
  • Once you pass the examination with a 75% score or higher, a Certificate of Completion will be e-mailed to you immediately.

The following policies apply to successful passage of course:

  • Reviewing course information and test time is unrestricted
  • Submission of completed test must be done 7 days from date of purchase
  • Exam pass rate must be 75% of total questions
  • Retake failed exam is $20 for each exam taken

What must I do if I have lost my certificate?

If you lose your certificate, you must send us a letter requesting a duplicate copy. In this letter, please specify when you completed this homestudy program and where you wish the certificate to be mailed. The cost for this service is $25.

2 Hour Infection Control (IC) Homestudy Course

Licensed RDAEFs, RDAs, OAs, are you in need of completing a mandated two hour continuing education course in Infection Control for renewal of your license?

Information will include:

  • Basic dental science and microbiology as they relate to infection control in dentistry.
  • Legal and ethical aspects of infection control procedures.
  • Terms and protocols specified in the regulations of the board regarding the minimum standards for infection control.
  • Principles of modes of disease transmission and prevention.
  • Principles, techniques, and protocols of hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, surface barriers and disinfection, sterilization, sanitation, and hazardous chemicals associated with infection control.
  • Principles and protocols of sterilizer monitoring and the proper loading, unloading, storage, and transportation of instruments to work area.
  • Principles and protocols associated with sharps management.
  • Principles and protocols of infection control for laboratory areas.
  • Principles and protocols of waterline maintenance.
  • Principles and protocols of regulated and nonregulated waste management.
  • Principles and protocols related to injury and illness prevention, hazard communication, general office safety, exposure control, postexposure requirements, and monitoring systems for radiation safety and sterilization systems.
