 Coronal Polishing Certification

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
EFDAA’s classes offered in 2024 are filled. No More Students can be added.
After December 15, 2024, the format of our 2025 courses will have minimal changes and will be posted on our website. Legislation recently passed this year have added new requirements for our courses. Please do not apply until the new changes have been adopted and posted on the web.

This course includes theory and clinical application in one of the most widely performed procedures, coronal polishing.  Dental Assistants…are able to Coronal Polishing as of January 1, 2025.  If they have completed a Dental Board approved coronal polishing certification course.

Custom Course in Your Office

If you are unable to come to one of our classes, we can customize a class for you and your co-workers in the comfort of your office. You will need is a minimum of 4 people to enroll in this course.  Please email  us at [email protected] for more information.

How is the Course Scheduled?

Our 12-hour coronal polishing course consists of the following:

  • The lecture part of this course will be completed as a home study in the privacy of your own home. You will receive this home study program, which consists of a comprehensive instructional syllabus, final written examination and answer sheet through an e-mail once we receive your course registration form.  You have seven days after you complete the classroom instruction to fax back your answer sheet for grading. 
  • The laboratory part of the course will be taught utilizing a traditional hands-on format in our training facility in the cities listed in our schedule of classes.  You will begin by learning to polish teeth on a typodont. 
  • Each student is required to perform a coronal polishing on 3 clinical patients provided by him/her. The 3 clinical patient coronal polishing will be performed on the first day of class.

What are the Course Prerequisites and Content?

Our experienced instructors provide detailed step by step demonstration.  Each student will practice polishing teeth on a typodont and one clinical patient under the supervision of our professional instructor.  All 3 Clinical patients must be 18 years or older and possess moderate plaque currently on the day of the course.   A detailed description of the course requirements will be sent along with the home study program upon receipt of the registration materials via the e-mail system.  Upon completion of all the course requirements and you are an DA you may perform this procedure.

What Supplies Must I Bring and the Required Classroom Attire?

Students enrolled in this course are required to provide those supplies that are commonly utilized in the performance of a coronal polishing procedure.  A list of these supplies will be e-mailed to you upon receipt of your registration.  All participants must wear a disposable gown, scrub-type uniform or lab coat; protective eyewear, mask and gloves in class.

To adequately ensure that you are well trained, you must arrive on time and bring the required materials listed in your student kit. Students will not be able to attend the required class.

Do I need to renew my Coronal Polishing Certificate?

No, once you have completed this course, received your Certificate of Completion your certificate will be valid indefinitely and does not need to be renewed.

Do You Want To Complete this Course in your Own Dental Office?

Does your office have a group of dental assistants that need this Certification?  We require a minimum of four assistants for this customized course.  Email us at [email protected]  about scheduling this course in your own dental office.

What is the Cancellation Policy?

If you are unable to attend this course and we receive your cancellation at least five business days prior to the course, you will receive a full refund except for a $25 processing fee.  All cancellations must be received by our office via email at [email protected]. A no show to the class will cause you to repeat the course at the regulation tuition rate. If you are unable to attend the course due to COVID EFDAA is requesting a copy of the test results prior to rescheduling, you into another date.  For lost certificates, a $25 fee will be required for a duplicate copy.

What if EFDAA has to Cancel a Class

Occasionally courses may be cancelled due to low enrollment.  Students will be given a full refund, unless the student requests transfer to another course.  Every reasonable effort will be made to reach students of cancellations and/or changes.

What must I do if I have lost my certificate?

If you lose your certificate, you must send us a letter requesting a duplicate copy. In this letter, please specify when you completed this course, the location, where you wish the certificate to be mailed. The cost for this service is $25.
